COS firmly believes in the power of peers when it comes to respectful
relationships. We believe that both male and female students can
take the INITIATIVE to set healthy standards for
their own relationships. Students across the country are getting
young men and women to show and expect respect in their relationships,
through the growing, national organization, “The i
(nitiative) Club.”
The name "i Club" is derived from “The
Katie Koestner Initiative for Respect in Relationships (TKKI).”
Our first official i Club was started in 2003 at
Durham Academy in Durham, North Carolina. More chapters are forming
as enthusiasm for our mission spreads.
This peer education program focuses not only on relationships between
the genders, but also on the treatment of others within the same
gender group. Gender bullying, sexual harassment, stalking, abuse,
sexual assault, and exploitation are among the many topics that i Clubs approach with their awareness weeks and
campaigns. Many chapters sponsor events relating to Valentine's
Day like, “Respectful Date Night” and “Prom Pledges”
for respectful treatment of their dates at the prom. Some i Clubs
also hold fundraisers to support shelters for battered women and
children and the mission of TKKI. To start a chapter at your school,
