This companionate video to “Please Write Back,” takes
viewers step by step through the process of helping someone who
has been raped or sexually assaulted. The content includes medical
attention, reporting options, emotional support, and other post-sexual
assault concerns. Experts describe their experiences with helping
survivors and provide detailed guidance. Sexual assault victims
share their own stories of what happened afterward, including whom
they first told, how people responded, and more. Rape-Related Post-Traumatic
Stress Disorder, Rape Kits and other critical topics are elucidated.
Viewers will be able to make a victim feel understood, supported
and empowered as to his or her options.
This film is perfect for resident assistants, faculty and staff,
police officers, peer counselors, as well as anyone who wants to
know how to provide assistance to someone who has been sexually
assaulted. The video does not conflict with individual school policies,
but brings to life what is often described in handbooks. A thorough
training manual, complete with an easy-to-follow checklist is available
for purchase with this film. Case studies are provided for group
discussion and application of newly attained knowledge. The manual
also includes important information on how to respond to someone
who is accused of sexual assault. It is available in electronic
format so that you can easily customize the reference phone numbers
and resources for your institution.
Many schools use this film as a “Part 2” training curriculum
after showing “Please Write Back” as an introduction
to the topic. To provide continuity between the two films, the same
four survivors appear in each film, sharing different facets of
their experience.
