SASSY: Strong, Assertive, Safe, Secure, Young Women by Joanne Wszolek

The SASSY Women and Girls Program cultivates assertive behavior and risk reduction techniques. SASSY is more than self defense; SASSY is an attitude adjustment.

SASSY Women learn physical defense skills, and preventative measures, and verbalization exercises which enable women to draw upon their hidden strengths. Smart strategies for party and social environments are highlighted, as well as the ways in which alcohol and other drugs create vulnerability.

The SASSY Women Program is available as a one-hour or three-hour course. The three-hour course includes exercises for building self-esteem and assertiveness, as well as learning self defense in a variety of at-risk situations. Kicks and strikes are taught and rehearsed, as well as self defense techniques for armed assaults. As the women role-play through a number of dangerous scenarios, they arm themselves with a new core of inner strength.

SASSY is interactive, enlightening, dynamic, and FUN! Women walk away with a new SASSY attitude: the knowledge and confidence to protect themselves from physical and verbal attacks by others, and from the emotional attacks of low self-esteem.
