Do you know what archive.org is and how it might affect your child's college admission? Do you know what a Hotornot rating is or how it can affect your child’s self-esteem? Do you know current blog topics of choice among teens? Do you know what an X-Box live outing is? Do you know the purpose of BitTorrent Programs and how the use of such programs may make parents liable? Do you know how predators use MySpace, Facebook, and Xanga to locate their next targets? Do you know what the difference is between a Facebook "Poke" and a Facebook "Photo Tag"?
If you have no idea what we are talking about, then "A Cyber World of Trouble" is the program for you. This interactive program effectively bridges the gap between parents and today’s cyber-generation caused by the explosive growth of the Internet, video games, and other popular technologies. These technologies have revolutionized youth social scenes in ways we are only beginning to understand and unfortunately many of us have been left behind, completely unaware of the dangers offered by these technologies.
"A Cyber World of Trouble" will catch up concerned parents. Our presenter, Katherine Koestner, will lead the audience through a tour of live websites frequented by adolescents and discuss current trends in youth online behavior. Our presenter’s insights are gleaned from research, experience, insider-information from today’s teens as well as partnerships with technology-focused institutions and the FBI. In exploring the technologies that have grown up alongside our children, you will better understand the lives of your children and how they are giving “voice” to today’s social issues and problems through the Internet.
