Have many of your students adopted virtual pets on Webkinz? Are they members of Club Penguin? Do they know the ways in which Cyber-Predators using these and other “kid-friendly” sites target victims? Do they understand how their X-Box 360 Live Outings are also the haunts of those who would perpetrate various cyber-facilitated crimes?
If your students have siblings, have they ever taken their fights online or over text-message? Do they understand the legal consequences of taking those fights online? Have they ever filmed their slumber parties with their cell phones and then stuck that footage on YouTube? Do they understand the consequences of using video phones to record the behavior and images of others? Have they thought about what their usernames say about them to others? Have they used their favorite song on their LiveJournal page, and do they understand the consequence of using other’s intellectual property for such purposes? We will cover these issues and many others during this kid-friendly, informative, and interactive program. Students will better understand the world of Cyber-Socializing, Blogs, and Cyber-Stalking by bringing three-dimensional reality to the two-dimensional world of Cyberspace. We also cover cyber-bullying and harassment between peers as well as fighting online.
“A Cyber World of Trouble” is a fun, educational program on everything students need to know about the downside of these cutting-edge technologies. Participants are led through a tour of live popular websites while we discuss their risks of use for children and teens. In exploring the technologies that have grown up alongside students, participants will better understand how to protect themselves from possible addictions and exploitations.
